Beginning on January 1, 2022 a new law requires that customers request single-use service ware items from businesses and restaurants.
The new law requires businesses to no longer automatically include single-use items with customer orders. You’ll need to request items that you need. Businesses can still offer items but they can’t not be automatically included in order.
Items that you will now need to request include:
- Utensils including knives, forks, spoons, and chopsticks
- Straws, cocktail picks, splash sticks, and stirrers
- Sauce and condiment packages
- Cup lids for cold beverages
Items that are not included in new law are:
- Plates, bowls, cups, and other products used to contain food or beverages
- Lids for hot beverages
- Wrappers for takeout food items
- Items provided by medical facilities
